Jasper mineral rock deposits. Jasper is a variety of chalcedony (also known as chert),an impure variety of silica (SiO2). It is opaque and occurs in many different colours. This deposit is near Marble Bar,a small village in the middle of the West Australian desert. The deposit,in an exposed rock formation, includes parallel red and white bands. These formed when a finely bedded sedimentary rock was converted into chalcedony by metamorphic geological processes involving high pressures and temperatures at great depth underground. This is a large mass of jasper relative to other deposits | |
