London tradesmen. 17th-century artwork of twelve London trades depicted in a religious pamphlet identifying those thought to be spreading heretical ideas. This was an attempt by the Anglican Church to denounce the Congregationalists,a group of nonconformist dissenting Protestant denominations that arose in the 16th and 17th centuries. The trades illustrated are: confectioner, smith, shoemaker, tailor, saddler, porter, boxmaker, soap boiler,glover,meal-man (a dealer in flour),chicken-man,and button-maker. Published in London in 1647 |
