Mythical headless creatures. 16th-century artwork of a race of legendary creatures known as headless Ewaiponoma or Blemmyae (Blemmyes). They were described as having faces on their chests. Tales of these creatures dates back to antiquity,including accounts by Herodotus and Pliny the Elder. This artwork is based on the account give in 'The Discovery of Guiana' (1596) by Sir Walter Raleigh,who was exploring the Venezuelan region now called Guayana.
