Pterodactyls in a Jurassic landscape. 19th-century artwork of pterodactyls (Pterodactylus) in a jungle landscape. These flying reptiles lived during the Late Jurassic period (150-148 million years ago). The first pterosaur genus to be identified, they had elongated jaws with teeth,a long tail and a wingspan of up to 1.5 metres. It is thought they fed on fish and other small animals. The pterodactyl at lower right is hunting a large dragonfly.
