Frederick Treves (1853-1923),British surgeon. Treves specialised in abdominal surgery,one of his most famous operations being to treat Edward VII for appendicitis in 1901 two days before the King's coronation. Treves,who was made a baronet in 1902,had carried out the first appendectomy in England in 1888. Treves also knew Joseph Merrick (the Elephant Man),arranging for him to stay at the London Hospital.
