Pacific island canoes and peoples. 18th-century artwork of outrigger canoes used by the indigenous peoples of various islands visited and discovered by the Dutch ship Waaksamheyd in a 1791-2 voyage from Sydney to the UK. The canoes are from the Lord Howe Islands (upper left),the Admiralty Islands (upper right) and the Duke of York Island (centre). The first is east of Australia,the other two are north-east of Papua New Guinea.
