US Treasury stock market teletypes. US economist Archie Lockhead in his office at the US Treasury,Washington DC,USA,checking stock market news on teletypes. This was one of the most profitable application of teletypes. Part of Lockhead's role was to keep track of the markets and currencies and report to the Secretary of the Treasury,Henry Morgenthau,Jr. Lockhead had worked for 13 years as foreign exchange expert for the Chemical Bank and Trust Company. He then worked for four years for the US Treasury as director of its stabilisation fund. He resigned in autumn 1939,moving to a New York financial institution. Photographed on 23 February 1939 | |
