This was the largest ever recorded earthquake,with a magnitude of 9.5. It struck 160 kilometres off the Chilean coast parallel to the city of Vladivia in southern Chile. 15 minutes after the earthquake a tsunami with waves measuring up to 25 metres hit the Chilean coast.
