Robert Mylne (1733-1811),Scottish architect. Mylne was from a family of architects. After being apprenticed to a carpenter and learning stone masonry,he travelled Europe to study classical architecture and culture. He was elected to several academies. Arriving in London in 1759,he entered and won the design competition for Blackfriars Bridge (opened 1769). During his career,Mylne designed several town and country houses,along with public buildings such as St Cecilia's Hall,Edinburgh (1760s),and the City of London Lying-in Hospital (1770s).
