Lassell Dome at Greenwich. 19th-century artwork of the 30-foot (9.1 metres) Lassell Dome at the Royal Observatory,Greenwich,UK. This dome was constructed in the 1880s to house this 20-foot reflecting telescope donated in 1883 by the family of British astronomer William Lassell (1799-1880). The telescope had been used to discover Triton (a moon of Neptune) in 1846. The building was demolished in the 1890s,but the dome was reused in Greenwich's New Physical Observatory (South Building).
