Frances Benjamin Johnston's camera. This camera is thought to have been owned by early US photographer and photojournalist Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864-1952). It was found in 2010 with a tripod with Johnston's nameplate on it. Johnston travelled in 1902 to Cordova,Alabama,USA,with US African-American educator Booker T. Washington (1856-1915). They were run out of town, and it is thought that the hole in the camera billows was made by a member of the Ku Klux Klan. Johnston is famous for her portrait photographs from the 1890s,moving into architectural photography in the 1920s. Photographed in 2010 | |
