Viking mass grave. Artwork of Vikings burying their dead in a mass grave. In the background is one of the circular Viking fortresses known as trelleborgs. The remains of these forts have been found in what is now Denmark and Sweden, dating from the Viking Age. This scene is based on remains found at Slagelse,Zealand,Denmark. Most graves were for individuals, but two mass graves with 5 and 11 people were found. The Vikings were a Norse culture from Scandinavia that explored and settled across large areas of Europe, western Asia, and the north-western Atlantic from the 8th to 11th centuries | |
