Hunterian Museum interior,19th-century artwork. Located at the Royal College of Surgeons,Lincoln's Inn Fields,London,England,this museum opened in 1813. It is based on the collection of Scottish surgeon John Hunter (1728-1793). In the early 1840s,curated by Richard Owen (robed,1804-1892) it included a giant ground sloth (Mylodon robustus,left),a giant armadillo relative (Glyptodon clavipes,right),and the 2.31-metre-tall skeleton of the Irish Giant (Charles Byrne,1761-1783,centre right).
