Peking Man research. French anthropologist Yves Coppens (born 1934) with a model reconstruction (left) of Peking Man (Homo erectus pekinensis). Peking Man refers to a set of hominin fossils discovered in the 1920s near Beijing,China. The fossils date from around 750,000 years ago. Homo erectus is the most widespread and longest-surviving of all the fossil hominins. Its geographical spread included north and east Africa,Europe,Indonesia and China.
