CPR first aid technique. Artwork showing the 5th of 6 steps used in the first aid technique of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Here, after carrying out mouth-to-mouth resuscitation (blowing steadily into the patient's mouth),the first aid responder is checking the patient's neck (carotid) pulse (red). He has also removed his mouth from the patient's mouth to allow air to escape from the deflating lungs, and is watching the chest to ensure that the lungs are inflating and deflating correctly. This is followed by chest compressions to massage and restart the heart if no pulse is detected. For the full sequence, see C014/5610 to C014/5615 | |
