S Monocerotis star. 19th-century astronomical observation of the star S Monocerotis (15 Monocerotis). North is at top. The star is at centre,with a small part of the NGC 2264 nebula visible below and right of the star. S Monocerotis is around 1000 light years away,in the constellation of Monoceros. This 3-hour exposure was obtained on 13 February 1895,from the observatory in Crowborough,Sussex,UK.
