Curiosity debris on Mars. Colour-enhanced satellite image of debris (white, centre and lower left) and impact marks (blue) from the landing of NASA's Curiosity rover on Mars. This rover, part of the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission, landed in the Gale Crater on 6 August 2012. This debris is the parachute and back shell that helped deliver the rover to the planet's surface. The impacts from the debris revealed darker basaltic sands below the surface dust and soil. Image obtained in September 2012 by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter satellite | |
