Curiosity rover's sample inlet. Close-up with NASA's Curiosity rover's Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) showing the inlet where powdered rock and soil samples will be gathered for analysis. This is the inlet for the Chemistry and Mineralogy (CheMin) instrument. The mesh screen is about 3.5 centimetres across, with a mesh size of 1 millimetre. CheMin will use X-rays to identify and quantify minerals in the sample. Image obtained by MAHLI on 11 September 2012,during the rover's 36th Martian day (sol).
