Curiosity rover calibration. The calibration target for the Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) on NASA's Mars rover Curiosity is near the base of the robotic arm carrying the camera. The calibration target includes colour references,a metric bar graphic,a 1909 VDB Lincoln penny, and a stair-step pattern for depth calibration. MAHLI will be used to obtain close-up,high-resolution views of rocks and soil. This image was obtained by MAHLI on 9 September 2012,during the rover's 34th Martian day (sol).
