Sundew (Drosera sp.). Light micrograph of a sundew carnivorous plant, showing the glandular hairs. The hairs secrete a sticky liquid with a fragrance that attracts insects. The insects get stuck on the glands, which then bend to the middle of the leaf to enclose the prey. The glands then secrete digestive enzymes to break down the prey's body. The plant then absorbs the nitrogenous nutrients that are released. Magnification: x34,when printed 10 centimetres wide | |
