MODEL RELEASED. Tuberculosis (TB) X-ray diagnosis. Close-up of an X-ray of a patient's lungs being examined by medical personnel for signs of TB. TB is an infection by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It usually infects the lungs and can cause severe scarring and lesions called tubercles. It is these lesions and scars that show up on X-rays. If a TB infection is not completely eradicated, then drug-resistant forms can develop. It is usually treated by a course of antibiotic drugs, often several taken in combination. Photographed in the UK | |
