Military fingerprinting. Uniformed man taking fingerprints during the 1930s. The ridges on the skin of human fingertips,a distinct and unique pattern, are an example of biometric data that can be recorded and used to identify individuals. The record cards contain spaces for prints to be taken of each digit on both left and right hand. Research into fingerprinting developed throughout the 19th century. Its applications became widespread during the 20th century, ranging from forensics to identification systems. This photograph is thought to date from between 1930 and 1935,and is part of the FSA-OWI Collection, mostly obtained in the USA | |
