Ernest Rutherford plaque. Blue heritage plaque commemorating work carried out by New Zealand physicist Ernest Rutherford (1871-1937) and colleagues. This plaque is in Bridgeford Street on the Rutherford Building,Manchester University. This site housed the laboratory where the Geiger-Marsden experiment (1909) took place,leading to the Rutherford model of the atom. The 'atom splitting' experiment took place in 1917.
