Pyramid of the Moon at Teotihuacan. This structure,an example of a stone step pyramid,is part of the large Teotihuacan archaeological site and city near Mexico City,Mexico. Teotihuacan's Mesoamerican culture reached its peak in the first half of the first millennium AD,with a population of around 100,000 making it one of the largest cities in the world at the time. It is thought that this pyramid was constructed between 250 and 400 AD,and used for ceremonies for the goddess of water and the Moon. It is 43 metres high, and its base measures 130 by 156 metres. Teotihuacan became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987 | |
