Ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta) mother and baby on the ground. This lemur is found in south-western Madagascar. It feeds mostly on leaves and fruit, but will also eat small invertebrates. All lemurs are endemic to Madagascar, where they evolved in isolation from other primates after Madagascar became geographically isolated from Africa. Many lemur species are becoming increasingly rare due to habitat destruction. This is the most terrestrial of the lemurs, spending a third of its time on the ground. The female rears a single baby, which is fully weaned after five months. Photographed in the Berenty Reserve,Madagascar | |
