This engraving is panel 1 from the second edition (1719) of 'Physico-Mechanical Experiments on Various Subjects' by the English scientist and Royal Society demonstrator Francis Hauksbee (1666-1713). From 1703,Hawksbee was curator and instrument maker for the Royal Society,carrying out weekly demonstrations of machines such as air pumps and static electricity generators.
