Lanyon Quoit dolmen. This prehistoric megalithic structure, which dates from the Neolithic (3500-2500 BC) is located in West Cornwall,UK,near the road between the villages of Madron and Morvah. It is sited at the northern end of a large 'long barrow' burial site. This alignment is not the original one,as the stones collapsed during a storm in October 1815,with one of the four uprights broken. The structure was re-erected in 1824. The capstone is a large granite block weighing 13.5 tons. This view looks north-east with the Greenburrow pumping engine house (1865) of the Ding Dong tin mines on the skyline at upper right | |
