Fossil microtomography scanning. Researcher using microtomography techniques to study the fossil skull of a dinosaur. This scanning technique uses high-resolution X-ray scanning (computed tomography) to record microscopic internal structure. This is a non-invasive technique that avoids damaging the specimen in the process. Here, the specimen is being placed in the scanning position next to the X-ray transmitter (hazard symbol at right). This scanner is from the French imaging company Viscom. Photographed in 2011,at the French National Museum of Natural History (MNHN),Paris,France | |
