Mimas temperatures,Cassini images in visible (left) and infrared (right). Mimas is the smallest of Saturn's main moons, with a diameter of 396 kilometres. It is mostly heavily cratered water ice. It has a warm region (yellow,92 Kelvin, minus 181 degrees Celsius) and a cold region (blue,77 Kelvin, minus 196 degrees Celsius). The Herschel Crater is at right in both images. The temperature distribution is less uniform than expected from models of the sunlight Mimas receives. This data was acquired on 13 February 2010,by the Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS) on the Cassini spacecraft in orbit around Saturn | |
