Saturnian moon Mimas, coloured Cassini image. This is the smallest of Saturn's main moons. With a diameter of 396 kilometres it is only just large enough to form a spherical shape under its own weight. It is mostly composed of water ice,and is heavily cratered. This image was obtained in a combination of ultraviolet, infrared and visible light, creating colour differences and contrasts that highlight variations in surface terrain and the structure of the craters. The large Herschel Crater is at lower right. The image data was acquired on 13 February 2010,by the narrow-angle camera on the Cassini spacecraft in orbit around Saturn | |
