Thought-controlled robotic arm. Weight testing (lifting up to 13 kilograms) with a mind-controlled robotic and prosthetic arm fitted to Austrian double amputee Christian Kandlbauer. Sensors transmit information to his brain via electrodes implanted on his left shoulder. Electrodes implanted on his chest allow the arm to be moved. A standard prosthetic has been fitted on his right-hand side. Kandlbauer, who died in a car crash in October 2010,pioneered this thought-control technology in Europe. The successful development and fitting of the arm was carried out by the German company Otto Bock from June 2006 to January 2009 | |
