Colour temperature spectrum. This spectrum shows how the overall hue of a source of visible light can vary in terms of a calculated characteristic known as colour temperature. The light produced by a source such as the Sun or a light bulb or candle will include a range of colours, but this can be averaged out to obtain a value for its colour temperature. This is expressed in Kelvin and here ranges from 1500 (red),through 3000 (yellow),4000 (white),and 5000 (cyan),to 6000-8000 (blue). This covers the range from sodium bulbs to metal halide bulbs.
