White rust fungus on a leaf. Light micrograph of a section through a plant leaf infected with white rust fungus (Albugo candida). Albugo is a type of parasitic oomycete (water mould) that attacks flowering plants, causing white blisters or 'rust'. The mould's hyphae (blue threads) suck nutrients from the host cell. A mass of hyphae forms the sporangiophores (blue clubs),which bud off sporangia (blue and red),formed beneath the almost ruptured epidermis (outer layer).
