Under the epidermis is the cortex of chlorenchyma ground tissue composed of cells full of chloroplasts and air cavities. The vascular bundles have an outer layer of sclerenchyma tissue (brown),underneath which is the phloem (light red) with phloem tubes,parenchyma and companion cells.
