Heliostat,19th-century artwork. Heliostats are devices designed to track the sun across the sky and continually adjust their mirror to reflect the sun's rays to a fixed location. This heliostat was a new design by the French instrument maker Philippe Pellin. It was exhibited in Paris at the 1894 exposition of the Physics Society of France. This heliostat included a heavy weight that stabilised the mechanism and made it more reliable. Artwork from the 13th volume (first period of 1894) of the French popular science weekly 'La Science Illustree' | |
