The Dance of Death (circa 1491). This artwork is part of a larger cycle produced by the German woodcut artist Jacob Meydenbach and published in Mainz. A dead person (left) dances with a doctor (right). The dead person is playing a musical instrument (upper left). The concept is that of the Danse Macabre,a medieval allegory reminding people that death comes to everyone in the end. Preserved in the Berlin Print Cabinet,this artwork was reproduced in 'Die Karikatur und Satire in der Medizin' (Caricature and Satire in Medicine,1921) by the German art historian and physician Eugen Hollander (1867-1932)
