MODEL RELEASED. Congenital hip dislocation surgery. Surgeon warming up a fibre-glass wrap that will be used to immobilise the hips of a 15-month-old girl after surgery to correct congenital dislocation of the hip (CDH). CDH causes the hip joint to repeatedly dislocate due a defect in the structure of the joint. Here it is caused by an abnormally shaped femoral head. The femoral head is the end of the femur (thigh bone) and forms the ball in the ball-and-socket of the hip joint. This surgery re-shaped the femoral head and inserted a plate to hold the femur in the correct position,in order to prevent future dislocation. The fibre-glass is used to hold the hips in the correct position while they heal
