Howard Earle Coffin (1873-1937),US industrialist. Coffin was one of eight founders of the Hudson Motor Car Company in 1909. Earlier,he had worked for the Oldsmobile Company. During World War I,Coffin was chairman of the Aircraft Board,which was responsible for aviation production. His wealth was used to purchase large amounts of land in Georgia,including several coastal islands which became resorts. Coffin also encouraged the pulpwood industry along the same coast.
