Rafflesia flower (Rafflesia tuan-mudae). Rafflesia are parasitic plants, and have the largest single flower of any plant in the world. The flowers can reach a diameter of almost a metre. The plants flower for a short period only, around five days, during which a strong smell reminiscent of rotting meat is emitted from the flower. This serves to attract pollinating flies. This species grows on the Tetrastigma vine. Photographed in May,in Gunung Gading National Park,Sarawak,Malaysian Borneo | |
