Bone softening. 18th-century journal page illustrating a case of softening of the bones (osteomalacia). This is the August 1752 appearance of 35-year-old Anne Elizabeth Queriot,of Paris,France. The first sign of illness was in 1747. By 1751,a chalky sediment was appearing in her urine and her bones and limbs began to soften and deform. She died in November 1752.
