Cassini-Huygens probe at Saturn. Artwork of the joint NASA-ESA Cassini-Huygens spacecraft firing its engine above the rings of Saturn as it entered orbit around the planet on 30 June 2004. This followed a journey of seven years after the launch from Earth in 1997. Attached to the Cassini orbiter is the Huygens probe (yellow,dish-shaped). The main antenna dish (grey),used to transmit pictures and data back to Earth,is at left. Huygens separated from Cassini in late 2004,and descended to the surface of Saturn's largest moon,Titan,in early 2005. As of 2011,Cassini is still orbiting Saturn and its mission has been extended to 2017 | |
