Jean Rousseau (1712-1778). Historical artwork of the Genevan philosopher, writer and composer Jean Jacques Rousseau. Rousseau's romantic works were seen to have encouraged human attachment to nature and natural beauty. He argued the moral superiority of the primitive state over the civilised state and supported the will of the masses over the divine right of Kings. This ideology prepared the way for the French Revolution. Published in 'Lives of men of letters and science' by Henry Brougham,in 1846 | |
