Phobos,Martian moon, orbiting Mars with the limb of the planet in the background. This image was obtained in November 2010 by the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft. Mars Express arrived at Mars in December 2003. Phobos, the larger of the two Martian moons,is irregular in shape, measuring 19x21x27 kilometres. It orbits 9400 kilometres above Mars, taking just over 7.6 hours to complete an orbit. As seen here,it is unusually dark for a moon, indicating it may be a captured asteroid | |
