Charles Darwin statue unveiling. Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882),British naturalist,is most famous for his theory of evolution,published in 1859 in 'On the Origin of Species'. This marble statue by the sculptor Joseph Edgar Boehm was unveiled on 9 June 1885,on the stairs of the Central Hall of the Natural History Museum,London,UK. Thomas Huxley,President of the Royal Society,is making a speech handing over the statue to the Trustees of the Natural History Museum,represented by the Prince of Wales (left). The statue was later moved,being returned here in 2008 as part of the celebrations for Darwin's 200th birthday |
