| Harry Morris Flint. This flint was given to Harry Morris,an amateur flint collector,by Charles Dawson (1864-1916),an amateur geologist and perpetrator of the Piltdown Man fraud. The flint was inscribed by Morris with 'Stained by Dawson with intent to defraud',the staining was used to artificially age the flint. Similar techniques were used on bone fragments Dawson claimed to have found in Piltdown,Sussex,UK,between 1908 and 1912. . It was claimed that Piltdown Man was the link between modern humans and their ape ancestors,combining the large human skull with an ape-like jaw. In 1953 Piltdown Man was shown to be a fraud.
