Ancient Peruvian pottery. Archaeologist producing a drawing of a piece of clay pottery excavated at the Chotuna-Chornacap archaeological site,in northern Peru. This site was occupied by the Lambayeque people, also referred to as the Sican culture. These pre-Inca people inhabited an area on the coastline of what is now northern Peru for several hundred years (8th to 14th centuries). They were then conquered by the Chimu and later by the Inca.
