Ancient Peruvian carvings. Bas-relief carvings excavated at a temple (Huaca Gloria) at the Chotuna-Chornancap archaeological site,in northern Peru. The temple was built by the Lambayeque people, also referred to as the Sican culture. These pre-Inca people inhabited an area on the coastline of what is now northern Peru for several hundred years (750 to 1375). These column carvings represent monkeys. Photographed in 2009 | |
