Desert-adapted elephant using its tusks to remove the bark from a tree for eating. This is an African elephant (Loxodonta africana) adapted to living in desert areas of Namibia and Angola. Such elephants use their food resources more sparingly than African elephants which reside in areas with lush vegetation. They also manage to survive on significantly less water, eat less, and are known to travel long distances in search of food. Photographed in Kaokoland,Namibia | |
