Australian colonial reprisals. Artwork of Australian colonial soldiers visiting Botany Bay (near Sydney) in around December 1790. This punitive expedition followed the wounding by aborigines of a John McEntire. This occurred only a few weeks after the New South Wales governor Arthur Phillip was speared. The four named here are surgeons John White,John Harris and Edward Laing, and aborigine Colebee (bottom right). Phillip recovered, but McEntire later died from his wounds. A gum tree is at left.
