Cape lion (Panthera leo melanochaitus),mounted museum specimen. This lion skin was sent to the Natural History Museum,London,UK,in 1954. It is a black-maned Cape lion that was shot near South Africa's Orange River in 1836 by Captain Copland-Crawford of the Royal Artillery.
